Carbon Accounting

Teaching myself Carbon Accounting – did you know the government can conduct audits and senior managers are liable for fines of up to $250,000 for non-compliance?
The accuracy of the emissions data is important because it forms the basis of targets set under the future Emissions Trading Scheme.
This is usually done by applying an emissions factor to an emissions source (e.g. Multiply litres of fuel used by the unleaded fuel factor to determine the emissions of a car).
Now that Carbon has a value it can be reflected in the company’s accounts.
And perhaps more importantly in a company’s valuation – when it is bought and sold, or for funding and loan approvals.
