I heard the amazing Vicki Simpson speak last weekend and her topic was “Give Me Some Space”.
Vicki gave a number of examples where space was necessary for success.
Joe Talcott, the marketing guru from Creatism.is, says “Our brains need space to be creative… busy is the enemy of creativity”. He suggests spending time in environments without emails, meetings or smartphones.
Vicki outlined different ways to create space:
1. Remove something e.g. create a ditch to hold water by removing soil or remove tv for half-an-hour.
2. Reassign something existing e.g. borrow some jars to create storage for oil that can be sold
3. Create something e.g. build an ark to create a protective, floating space.
Vicki also suggested that I re-arrange some things in my home as a tangible action to show I was preparing for change.
So I did. What I discovered was that there’s a whole lot of cleaning and vacuuming and sorting work that goes with all the “grunt” work of actually moving furniture etc.
But all of that helps create new spaces. Both physical spaces and creative, strategic, emotional, spiritual and mental spaces too. And that’s surely worth the work.
What can you do today to create some space for success?
